Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan has played—and continues to play—a significant role in promoting peace both regionally and globally, particularly during tensions between the United States and Iran.
Addressing the International Message of Islam Conference in Islamabad, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between the two countries. He noted that, at Pakistan’s invitation, the leadership of both the United States and Iran visited Islamabad and engaged in talks.
“This was the first time since 1979 that senior leadership from both countries sat together,” he said, describing it as a major diplomatic development.
The prime minister expressed hope that the ongoing dialogue would lead to lasting peace and stability, emphasizing that Pakistan remains committed to supporting diplomatic solutions over conflict.
He also acknowledged the role of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stating that Saudi Arabia contributed significantly to the peace efforts and supported the dialogue process.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan’s commitment to peace is not limited to the present situation but will continue in the future as part of its broader foreign policy approach.
Analysts view Pakistan’s involvement in facilitating talks as part of its effort to strengthen its diplomatic standing and contribute to regional stability, especially in times of heightened geopolitical tensions.
The prime minister’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s intention to position itself as a mediator and a proponent of peaceful conflict resolution in international affairs.
