The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an important weather outlook for the next three months, warning that the province is likely to experience above-normal rainfall and higher-than-usual temperatures during May, June, and July 2026.

According to the advisory sent to relevant departments, authorities have been directed to remain alert and make necessary preparations to deal with possible heatwaves, urban flooding, and other weather-related emergencies during the upcoming summer and monsoon season.

Higher Temperatures Expected Across Punjab

The PDMA stated that temperatures across Punjab are expected to remain above normal during the month of May. The authority specifically warned that a heatwave is likely to affect most districts of Punjab from May 7 to May 11.

Officials said that the temperature increase could create health risks, especially for children, elderly citizens, laborers, and people working outdoors. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours and to increase water intake in order to prevent dehydration and heatstroke.

The authority also urged hospitals and rescue departments to stay prepared for possible heat-related medical emergencies.

Rainfall Forecast for Different Regions

The weather outlook suggests varying rainfall patterns across different parts of Punjab:

  • Northern and northwestern Punjab are expected to receive above-normal rainfall during the three-month period.
  • Eastern Punjab may receive slightly below-normal rainfall.
  • Central Punjab is likely to experience rainfall close to seasonal averages.

The expected increase in rainfall in northern areas could raise the risk of flash floods, overflowing streams, and urban flooding in low-lying regions. Authorities have therefore been instructed to ensure proper drainage systems and emergency response measures.

Concern Over Climate Variability

Experts believe the unusual weather conditions are linked to changing climate patterns affecting South Asia and other parts of the world. Pakistan has experienced increasingly unpredictable weather in recent years, including extreme heatwaves, heavy rains, droughts, and floods.

Punjab, being the country’s most populous province, remains highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters. Agricultural experts are also monitoring the weather closely because changing rainfall and temperature patterns may affect crops and food production.

Farmers have been advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take preventive steps to protect standing crops from possible heat stress or excessive rainfall.

Government Departments Asked to Remain Alert

The PDMA has instructed district administrations, health departments, rescue services, irrigation authorities, and municipal agencies to remain fully prepared during the coming months.

Relevant departments have been asked to:

  • Ensure availability of clean drinking water
  • Prepare heatwave response centers
  • Monitor flood-prone areas
  • Improve drainage systems
  • Launch public awareness campaigns

Authorities are also expected to issue regular weather alerts to keep the public informed about changing conditions.

Public Advisory

Citizens have been advised to:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure during afternoon hours
  • Drink plenty of water and fluids
  • Wear light-colored clothing
  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat
  • Pay special attention to children and elderly family members
