The Lahore High Court has dismissed the bail application of a man accused of secretly recording an obscene video of a female doctor and blackmailing her for money.
The case was heard by Justice Waheed Khan, where the accused, identified as Israr Majid, had filed a request for bail in a case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). During the proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Raja Akram represented the FIA.
According to the prosecution, the accused worked as a driver at a private hospital and was dismissed from his job. After being fired, he allegedly conspired with a security guard and installed hidden cameras in the washroom of the victim’s residence.
The court was informed that the accused used the recorded material to blackmail the doctor and demanded Rs 2.5 million (25 lakh) in exchange for not making the video public. The FIA arrested the accused following a complaint filed by the victim’s son.
The defense counsel argued that the accused had already been in jail for 10 months and maintained that the truth would only be determined during the trial. He requested the court to grant bail on grounds of prolonged detention.
However, the court rejected the bail plea, observing the seriousness of the allegations. The judge remarked that the nature of the alleged offence did not make the accused eligible for bail at this stage.
The court emphasized that cases involving privacy violations, blackmail, and exploitation require strict legal scrutiny, and the matter should proceed through proper trial proceedings.
