NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Noida.
According to Indian authorities, the 75-year-old retired IAS officer, a 1975-batch officer, was found dead at his flat in Sector 82, Noida, on September 6.
Police said an alleged suicide note was also recovered from the scene, in which Mehta reportedly cited mental and health-related problems as reasons for taking the extreme step.
A forensic team inspected the flat and collected evidence. Police are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the contents of the alleged note.
At the time of the incident, Mehta’s wife, Sumanti Mehta, was in Dehradun with their son. She became concerned after her husband repeatedly failed to answer her calls.
