QUETTA: Security forces conducted intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Kharan and Washuk districts, killing 11 militants, according to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to an ISPR statement, the operations were carried out on September 6 and 7 following intelligence reports about the presence of what it described as India-backed militants in the two districts.
During the operations, a total of 11 militants were killed, the statement said.
On September 6, militants allegedly attempted to block a road in Kharan and disrupt traffic. Security forces responded immediately, cordoned off the area and engaged the militants in an exchange of fire.
As a result, eight militants were killed, according to ISPR.
The military’s media wing said another operation was conducted on September 7 in an area of Washuk after security forces received information about the presence of militants.
During the operation, troops effectively destroyed a militant hideout. Following an exchange of fire, three more militants were killed, ISPR said.
Security forces also recovered approximately 2.9 tonnes of explosives from the area, according to the statement. The explosives were allegedly being used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
ISPR said that sanitisation operations were being conducted in the areas to eliminate any remaining militants and that security forces would continue their efforts to counter militant activity in Balochistan.
The claims regarding the identities and affiliations of those killed were made by the military and could not be independently verified.
