SUKKUR A hockey match between the women’s teams of Sukkur and Khairpur was organized on September 6 to mark Defence Day of Pakistan.
The event was arranged by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, on the special instructions of Provincial Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar and Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar, in collaboration with the Shaheed Benazir Women Sports Academy Sukkur.
The match was organized by District Sports Officer Sukkur Muhammad Akhlaq Memon. Women players from both teams participated enthusiastically and demonstrated their sporting skills.
Pakistan Peoples Party Sukkur City Women Wing President Madam Naheed Sheikh attended the match as chief guest. District Hockey Association Sukkur Secretary Arif Mahmood, Senior Director Physical Education Murtaza Dahot, Directors Physical Education Irfan Ali Dahot and Rizwana Chachar, Physical Training Instructor Fiza Jaffery and other sports personalities were also present.
Participants said organizing sporting events on Defence Day helps promote patriotism and sports among young people, particularly women athletes, while encouraging healthy and constructive activities.
District Sports Officer Muhammad Akhlaq Memon said providing women with better opportunities to demonstrate their abilities in sports was among the department’s priorities. He added that more sporting events would be organized in Sukkur in the future to promote sports and encourage women athletes.
He said sports not only engage young people in positive activities but also contribute to building a healthy society and provide opportunities for athletes to bring recognition to the country.
