KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Karachi may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on April 6 due to incoming westerly winds.

These winds are expected to enter Balochistan via Iran on April 5, affecting weather patterns in Sindh, the Met Office said. The system may bring thunderstorms, rain, and isolated hailstorms to several districts, including Sukkur, Kashmore, and Ghotki districts, on April 6.

The new system follows a heavy downpour on Thursday that left at least seven people dead and three injured in rain-related incidents in the metropolis.

In its new forecast, the PMD added that light to moderate rains are expected in Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal.

The authorities have cautioned that strong winds, hail, and lightning during this period could damage weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.

Farmers have also been advised to take preventive measures to protect standing crops from potential harm.

The metropolis experienced severe road congestion as the heavy rainfall caused widespread waterlogging across numerous parts of the port city on April 2.

Commuters struggled to navigate the flooded streets, with traffic moving slowly in many areas throughout the day.

Five of the seven deaths occurred due to electrocution during the downpour, while a rickshaw driver was killed when a wall collapsed onto his vehicle during the rain in Old Golimar area, claiming his life on the spot.
