CALIFORNIA: WhatsApp is introducing a new password-based security system to strengthen protection for user accounts.
Currently, WhatsApp’s two-step verification relies on a traditional six-digit PIN. Under the new system, users will be able to use a password containing a combination of letters and numbers instead.
The company says the change is designed to provide stronger protection against account hacking and unauthorized access.
How the Feature Works
Once the password option becomes available on a user’s account, it can be configured through WhatsApp’s security settings.
Users will be able to:
Open WhatsApp Settings.
Go to Account and select Two-step verification.
Follow the prompts to set up or update their security credentials.
Create a stronger password using a combination of letters and numbers.
Keep the password confidential and avoid sharing it with anyone.
The new system is intended to make two-step verification more secure than relying solely on a short six-digit PIN. Availability may depend on the WhatsApp version and the gradual rollout of the feature to users.
