LONDON: Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ongoing Test series, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided to remove head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their Test-team responsibilities.
According to sources, important decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in London.
Sources said Sarfaraz Ahmed has been relieved of his responsibilities as head coach of the Pakistan Test team, while bowling coach Umar Gul will also be removed from his position. However, both coaches are expected to remain with the team for the third Test before formally leaving their roles upon their return to Pakistan.
According to sources, Mike Hesson will take charge as the head of the coaching staff for the Birmingham Test. He is also expected to serve as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team during the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Meanwhile, sources said a decision has been made to send Salman Ali Agha back home before the third Test. Salman Ali Agha is expected to return to Pakistan along with Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq.
The reported coaching changes come amid growing concerns over the national Test side’s performance, with the PCB management considering adjustments to the coaching setup in an effort to improve the team’s results in upcoming series.
