More than 30 Pakistani and Pakistani-origin runners took part in the 42.195-kilometre Sydney Marathon, competing alongside thousands of athletes from around the world.
Among the Pakistani runners, Danish Elahi delivered the fastest performance, completing the marathon in 3 hours, 29 minutes and 7 seconds. He had previously said that he wanted to run in traditional shalwar kameez to present a positive image of Pakistan internationally.
Noshirwan Ali from Karachi finished second among Pakistani runners with a time of 3 hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds. Among the women, Dr Rabia Naeem was the fastest Pakistani female runner, finishing in 3 hours, 52 minutes and 25 seconds.
Other Pakistani runners also completed the challenging race, with several recording impressive times despite the demanding 42.195-kilometre distance.
Geo News Deputy Sports Editor Faizan Lakhani completed his third full marathon in 4 hours, 54 minutes and 41 seconds. The Sydney Marathon was particularly significant for him as it marked his first World Marathon Major event.
The Sydney Marathon route is renowned for passing iconic landmarks, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, before finishing near the Sydney Opera House.
For Pakistani participants, the event was about more than finishing times. For some, it was a personal challenge; for others, an opportunity to represent Pakistan and experience the international marathon circuit. Their participation highlighted Pakistan’s growing presence in global endurance sports.
