KARACHI: A reported maternity case at a private hospital in Karachi’s Nazimabad has taken an unexpected turn after medical examinations found that the woman was not pregnant.

According to SSP District Central Dr Muhammad Imran Khan, an investigation into the incident at Hamdard Hospital, Nazimabad No. 3, has made significant progress. A medical examination and medico-legal report found no evidence of pregnancy.

The woman, identified as Zobia, wife of Rashid, had been brought to the hospital by her family for delivery. During the operation, hospital staff reportedly discovered that she was not pregnant.

The revelation sparked anger among her family members, who protested at the hospital and allegedly damaged property.

According to the investigation, the woman had reportedly presented herself as pregnant because she feared being taunted by relatives for being childless.

Police said the investigation is continuing, while the alleged negligence and handling of the case by the hospital staff are also being examined.
