ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has revealed that one of the 14 newborn babies who died in the PIMS tragedy was unclaimed.

According to Mustafa Kamal, the unclaimed baby was buried by the Edhi Foundation. He said the Rs5 million compensation announced for the affected families would also be given to the Edhi Foundation.

Police said a woman gave birth to the baby on June 21 and left the child at PIMS. The baby had remained in the hospital nursery since then.

According to police, the child was still unclaimed when the bodies were identified and handed over to their families. No one came forward to claim the baby or file a complaint, which is why the mother remains missing.
