Islamabad: Further delays in the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam have been termed a serious threat to the country’s survival, as the committee overseeing the project directed that all obstacles be removed immediately.
The warning came during a meeting of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Implementation Committee, chaired by WAPDA Chairman Muhammad Saeed. The meeting reviewed two of the most critical aspects of the project’s progress.
The committee, formed under the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to monitor the dam’s development, urged local communities and provincial authorities to help eliminate construction hurdles and speed up the process of land acquisition.
Officials warned that any further delay in completing the dam could seriously threaten Pakistan’s water security, food security, and energy stability.
