Khairpur, August 20, 2026: An important meeting of the Human Rights Committee was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khairpur under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Abdul Hakim Dharejo.
The meeting reviewed a range of issues concerning the protection of human rights across the district, resolution of public complaints, action against violations of the law and, in particular, measures to prevent child marriages.
Addressing the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Abdul Hakim Dharejo said the district administration was taking every possible step to protect human rights. He stated that strict action would be taken in accordance with the law against those found responsible for violating human rights.
He directed the relevant departments to take complaints concerning human rights seriously and ensure that they are investigated transparently. He further instructed officials to resolve complaints within the prescribed period and initiate legal proceedings without delay whenever a violation of the law is established.
During the meeting, members of the Human Rights Committee were briefed on progress made on complaints received by the authorities. Officials said a large number of human rights-related complaints had been received, of which 292 complaints had been resolved, while eight complaints remained pending.
The meeting was also informed that 10 FIRs had been registered in cases involving alleged human rights violations. In addition, charge sheets in 10 cases had already been submitted to the courts for further legal proceedings.
The committee also reviewed measures being taken under the Child Marriages Act 2026 to prevent underage marriages in the district.
Officials informed the meeting that charge sheets in a total of six cases related to child marriages had been submitted for legal action. The Additional Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for stronger coordination and joint efforts among relevant institutions at the district level to prevent child marriages and protect children’s rights.
Abdul Hakim Dharejo said government departments, social welfare organisations and civil society must all play an effective role in protecting human rights. He also called for greater public awareness regarding citizens’ legal rights so that people are better equipped to seek assistance when their rights are violated.
He instructed relevant officers to ensure not only the timely resolution of complaints but also proper follow-up. He said no affected person should face unnecessary delays in obtaining justice.
The meeting also discussed various issues relating to human rights protection, complaint resolution and legal proceedings. Relevant departments were given necessary instructions to improve coordination and ensure effective implementation of decisions.
Officials and representatives from several departments attended the meeting, including Assistant Director Social Welfare Mudassar, representatives of the Police Department Mehnaz Buzdar and Naib Ali Bhanbhan, Dr Shahid, an EDO and a representative of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on strengthening institutional coordination, ensuring timely action on complaints and taking effective measures to prevent violations of human rights, particularly cases involving child marriages.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring that complaints are handled transparently and that legal action is taken against those found responsible for violations. Authorities also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between government institutions, social welfare organisations and civil society in protecting vulnerable members of the community.
