New Delhi: India’s powerful farmers’ organization, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), has announced nationwide protests against a recently finalized trade agreement with the United States.
Farmer leaders argue that the deal grants excessive concessions in the agriculture sector, undermining the interests of Indian farmers. They have described the agreement as unfair and one-sided, claiming it reflects the government’s inability to protect domestic agriculture.
According to the SKM, the protests will escalate in the coming days, with a nationwide strike planned for February 12, 2026. Farmers have warned that if the government proceeds with the current terms of the deal, it will face widespread unrest across the country.
The farmers’ organizations also demanded the resignation of India’s Commerce Minister, holding the government responsible for what they see as surrendering to US pressure.
Meanwhile, the US President has confirmed that the trade agreement has been finalized. However, the deal has already sparked anger and disappointment among the Indian farming community, which fears it will increase financial and operational pressure on the agricultural sector.
