ISLAMABAD — August 20, 2026: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan may be transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, with preparations reportedly underway as authorities await a final decision.

According to sources, consultations among relevant authorities are continuing regarding the possible transfer of the former prime minister to the hospital. The development follows an important meeting in Islamabad during which administrative arrangements related to his potential hospitalization were reviewed.

Sources said the meeting also discussed medical and security arrangements at PIMS. Officials reportedly considered the formation or deployment of a medical board and reviewed security measures that would be required if Imran Khan is transferred to the hospital.

Preparations at PIMS have reportedly begun in anticipation of the possible transfer. Arrangements are being made for Imran Khan’s medical examination and treatment at the hospital, should the authorities give final approval for his transfer.

However, sources said that no final decision has yet been announced regarding the transfer, and consultations among the relevant authorities are still in progress.

The possible hospitalization of Imran Khan comes amid continuing discussions over his medical treatment and the appropriate facility where he should receive care. The matter has also become a subject of political and legal debate, with the government and PTI maintaining different positions on the issue.

Authorities are expected to make a final decision after reviewing medical, administrative, and security considerations. Until then, preparations at PIMS are reportedly being maintained in readiness for any directive regarding the former prime minister’s transfer.
