Investigations into the suicide bombing at an Imambargah in Islamabad have made significant progress, with law enforcement agencies arresting close relatives of the attacker during a raid in Peshawar, police sources said.
According to police officials, a raid was conducted at the suicide bomber’s residence in Peshawar, resulting in the arrest of his two brothers, his brother-in-law, and a woman. The arrests were made as part of an expanding investigation aimed at uncovering the network behind the deadly attack.
Investigative sources revealed that an identity card belonging to the suicide bomber was recovered from the scene of the explosion. Based on the information on the identity card, the attacker has been identified as Yasir.
Police sources said the permanent address listed on the identity card is Abbas Colony, located on Shiro Jangi Charsadda Road in Peshawar. The attacker’s current address was recorded as Ganj Mohallah Qazian, also in Peshawar.
Authorities said the recovery of the identity card played a crucial role in swiftly identifying the attacker and tracing his background. Following this breakthrough, law enforcement agencies intensified their investigation and launched targeted operations to apprehend individuals suspected of facilitating the attack.
Investigators further disclosed that the suicide bomber had resided in Afghanistan for approximately five months prior to carrying out the attack. During his stay there, he allegedly received training in the use of weapons as well as instruction in conducting suicide attacks.
Officials believe this foreign stay and training are key elements in understanding the planning and execution of the bombing. Intelligence agencies are examining travel records, communication links, and possible cross-border connections to determine how the attacker moved and who assisted him.
Police have also initiated raids in Peshawar and Nowshera to identify and arrest members of the attacker’s suspected network and facilitators. These operations are aimed at dismantling any support structures that may have helped plan, finance, or execute the attack.
According to police sources, investigations are ongoing from all angles. Authorities are closely examining the attacker’s contacts, communication history, and movements in the days and weeks leading up to the incident. Investigators are also probing whether the arrested individuals had prior knowledge of the attack or played any role in aiding the attacker.
Officials said that further arrests could follow as the investigation progresses. They added that more crucial evidence is expected to emerge, which may help clarify the broader background and motivations behind the Islamabad suicide bombing.
The suicide attack targeted an Imambargah in Islamabad, causing significant casualties and triggering widespread condemnation across the country. The incident raised serious concerns over security at religious sites and prompted authorities to enhance security measures nationwide.
Law enforcement agencies have emphasized that the arrests made so far are part of an initial phase of the investigation. Officials stressed that determining the full extent of the network involved remains a top priority.
Investigative authorities said coordination between police, intelligence agencies, and counterterrorism units has been strengthened to ensure a thorough and effective probe. Forensic analysis, including examination of explosive materials and digital evidence, is also underway.
Police sources noted that the recovery of additional evidence during ongoing raids could help establish links between the attacker and any militant organizations. However, officials cautioned that conclusions would only be drawn once the investigation is complete.
The Islamabad suicide bombing is being treated as a major terrorism case, with authorities vowing to bring all those involved to justice. Officials have reiterated that no individual connected to the planning, facilitation, or execution of the attack will be spared.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, particularly in major cities and sensitive locations. Security officials say the information gathered so far will be instrumental in preventing future attacks and dismantling terrorist networks operating within and beyond Pakistan’s borders.
