Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid a surprise visit to the passport office in Garden Town, Lahore, on Wednesday morning, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

During his visit, citizens who had come to get passports made heaped complaints upon the Interior Minister.

One citizen complained that “We have been here since morning; it’s been four hours, yet our turn hasn’t come.”

He said that “I have paid Rs5,500 to the agent; agents openly demand money for expediting the work.”

One senior citizen complained that he reached the passport office to collect his passport, but he was told that his passport had not been printed yet.

The federal interior minister expressed strong displeasure after observing the situation at the passport office.

Mohsin Naqvi ordered the removal of the deputy director in charge of the Passport Office from his post due to mismanagement and negligence of duty.

He also ordered the removal of the Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption (FIA Lahore) from his position due to the presence of a mafia agent.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also apologised to citizens, stating that the situation is deeply regrettable and the treatment meted out to the public is intolerable.

He emphasised that there would be no compromise on the provision of prompt services at the passport office, and disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found negligent or remiss, without exception.

Mohsin Naqvi said that providing facilities to the citizens is the government’s topmost priority.
