Elon Musk Claims WhatsApp Is Not Secure

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person and the owner of companies like Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), has labeled WhatsApp as an insecure app. In a post on X (Twitter), Musk stated that WhatsApp is not secure and also claimed that Signal, another popular messaging app, cannot be considered secure either. Instead, Musk recommended X Chat as a safer alternative to both of these apps.

This statement came at a time when a lawsuit was filed in a U.S. court, challenging WhatsApp’s claim of end-to-end encryption. The lawsuit argues that Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, may have access to users’ private messages.

The case was filed by users from countries like Australia, Mexico, and South Africa, who allege that the security protections within WhatsApp are not effective. The users claim that Meta employees have access to private messages and can bypass encryption systems to view them.

The lawsuit references a statement from an anonymous whistleblower within Meta, who alleged that Meta’s internal systems can bypass encryption and access users’ messages, even deleted ones. The lawsuit also claims that this access is unlimited in time, meaning Meta employees could view the entire message history.
