ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday approved several summaries forwarded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, including those seeking the summoning of the National Assembly and Senate sessions on August 17.

According to a statement posted by the President’s Secretariat on X, Zardari approved the conferment of military honours on 1,172 personnel of the armed forces and civil armed forces.

The president also approved the summoning of the National Assembly session on August 17 at 5pm and the Senate session at 4pm.

Zardari further approved a special 100-day remission in the sentences of eligible prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day and Eid Miladun Nabi.

The President’s Secretariat said that the remission would apply to prisoners eligible under the relevant criteria.

The president also approved the conferment of national honours on citizens belonging to various civil sectors.

Earlier this week, Zardari had given his assent to the appointment of 19 additional judges to five high courts, along with the confirmation of five others as permanent judges.
