ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has officially launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme for young people, researchers and startups, with an investment of more than Rs1 billion.
Launched on August 13, 2026, the national initiative aims to promote research, advanced technology and creative thinking in Pakistan’s power sector while encouraging practical solutions to the country’s energy challenges.
According to the Power Division, the Innovation Hub will serve as a dedicated digital platform through which young people, researchers, universities, startups, industry representatives and sector experts will be brought together on a single platform.
Under the programme, more than Rs1 billion will be allocated over the next three years for successful projects. Each selected young innovator will also be eligible to receive compensation of up to Rs500,000.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said that the power sector needs not only greater effort but also more innovative thinking.
He said the National Power Sector Innovation Programme was not merely a competition but the establishment of a sustainable national institutional mechanism aimed at promoting innovation in the energy sector.
The minister said young innovators would receive mentorship, guidance and practical support under the programme. Measures would also be taken to transform promising research ideas into viable and practical projects.
According to Awais Leghari, aspiring students, researchers, startups and young professionals will be able to submit their innovative and creative ideas through the Innovation Hub’s digital platform.
The Power Division said the initiative would create opportunities to develop locally driven innovative solutions for Pakistan’s energy sector, transform research into practical projects and harness the talent and capabilities of the country’s youth.
The programme is expected to provide a structured platform for young innovators to contribute directly to addressing some of Pakistan’s longstanding challenges in the power sector.
