Kabul: A deadly explosion in the Shahr-e Naw area of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has claimed the lives of seven people, including a Chinese Muslim national, and left several others injured, according to local authorities.
Police spokespersons reported that the blast occurred near the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant in the Shahr-e Naw district. The restaurant was jointly operated by Chinese Muslim citizen Abdul Majid and Afghan citizen Abdul Jabbar. Tragically, both the owners along with five other Afghan nationals were killed in the incident.
The exact cause and nature of the explosion remain under investigation, with authorities working to determine whether it was accidental or intentional. Police have cordoned off the area to secure the site and continue their inquiry.
Shahr-e Naw is known for housing foreign nationals and embassies and is considered one of the safer districts in Kabul. Despite its reputation, the incident has raised serious security concerns, highlighting the ongoing risks faced even in relatively secure areas of the city.
International news agencies reporting from the area confirmed the identities of the victims and described the neighborhood as a hub for both locals and expatriates. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately to assist the injured and control the situation.
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious while the investigation continues and have promised a full inquiry into the circumstances of the blast. The attack underscores the continuing challenges of ensuring civilian safety in Kabul amid sporadic security threats.
