HYDERABAD, August 11, 2026: Hyderabad Police have arrested 14 suspects, including women, during a series of operations against criminal elements, drug peddlers and suppliers of hazardous mainpuri and gutka in different areas of the city.
The operations were carried out on the directives of DIG Hyderabad Range Tariq Razzaq Khan Dharejo and SSP Hyderabad Shahzaib Chachar as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and the sale and supply of banned and harmful substances.
According to a press release issued by Hyderabad District Police, several operations were conducted by different police units, resulting in arrests, recovery of contraband and registration of criminal cases.
City Police Operations
SHO Inspector Tahir Mughal, along with his police staff, conducted operations in different areas during routine patrolling.
City Police arrested two alleged sellers of hazardous mainpuri, identified as Zain Qureshi and Muzammil Qureshi. Police recovered 55 mainpuri packets from their possession.
A case, registered as Crime No. 136/2026, was filed against the suspects under Section 8 of the Gutka and Mainpuri Act.
In another operation, police arrested alleged mainpuri seller Salman Qureshi and recovered 30 mainpuri packets from his possession. A case, registered as Crime No. 137/2026, was registered against him under Section 8 of the Gutka and Mainpuri Act.
Police also claimed to have foiled an alleged attempt to supply gutka by arresting two women, identified as Tasleem Sheikh and Shabana Sheikh.
According to police, their alleged associate Tahir Abbasi managed to escape from the scene.
Police said a total of 1,320 gutka sachets packed in 12 packets were recovered from the arrested and fleeing suspects.
A case, registered as Crime No. 139/2026, was filed under Section 8 of the Gutka and Mainpuri Act.
City Police also took action against proclaimed and absconding suspects. Police said an absconding suspect wanted in Crime No. 493/2026, registered under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code, was taken into custody.
A-Section Police Operations
SHO Inspector Munir Ahmed Abbasi, along with his staff, also conducted several operations in the jurisdiction of A-Section Police Station.
During patrolling, police arrested three individuals identified as Molchand Thakur, Ashok Thakur and Sajan Thakur for allegedly violating a ban imposed by the Hyderabad Commissioner on bathing in the river.
Police said the suspects had allegedly violated Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
A case, registered as Crime No. 360/2026, was filed against the three suspects under Sections 188 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In another operation, A-Section Police arrested Faraz Ali and recovered four bottles of liquor from his possession.
According to police, another suspect accompanying him managed to escape, leaving behind four additional bottles of liquor at the scene.
A case, registered as Crime No. 361/2026, was filed against the arrested and fleeing suspects under Sections 3/4 of the Prohibition (Hudood) Order.
During further investigation, police said the arrested suspect Faraz Ali disclosed his alleged involvement in motorcycle theft incidents within the jurisdiction of A-Section Police Station.
Based on information provided during the investigation, police recovered two stolen motorcycles linked to cases registered as Crime No. 248/2026 and Crime No. 308/2026 under Section 381-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In another operation, A-Section Police arrested alleged drug supplier Shahzad Ali Qureshi and recovered 1 kilogram and 110 grams of hashish (charas) from his possession.
Police registered Crime No. 362/2026 against the suspect under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Act.
A-Section Police also continued action against proclaimed and absconding suspects.
Police arrested Abdul Basit, who was allegedly absconding in Crime No. 190/2026, registered under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Another absconding suspect, identified as Adeel, was arrested in connection with Crime Nos. 162/2023, 184/2023 and 247/2023, all registered under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Airport Check Post Operation
An additional operation was conducted by personnel of the Airport Check Post under the supervision of In-charge Sub-Inspector Mohsin Jamali.
During patrolling, Airport Police arrested an alleged drug seller identified as Daud Zafar Christian.
Police recovered three bottles of liquor from his possession and registered Crime No. 363/2026 against him under Sections 3/4 of the Prohibition (Hudood) Order.
According to Hyderabad District Police, further legal proceedings against the arrested absconding suspects are currently underway.
Police officials said investigations into the registered cases would continue and further action would be taken on the basis of evidence and information obtained during the investigations.
The Hyderabad Police maintained that operations against criminal elements, drug suppliers and sellers of hazardous mainpuri and gutka would continue across the district.
The police department said the ongoing crackdown was being conducted under the directives of senior officers to improve law and order and prevent the distribution of illegal and harmful substances.
The authorities also reiterated their commitment to taking action against individuals involved in criminal activities and to bringing wanted and absconding suspects before the law.
According to the police spokesperson, further operations are continuing in different parts of Hyderabad as part of the district police’s ongoing efforts to combat crime, drug trafficking and the sale of banned substances.
