An alleged audio conversation between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja and Senator Mashal Yousafzai has surfaced, bringing the party’s internal affairs and reported differences within its leadership back into focus.
In the purported conversation, Salman Akram Raja asks Yousafzai to explain what conspiracy was allegedly taking place, saying his life was “like an open book”.
Yousafzai, in response, levelled a series of allegations concerning the party’s internal decisions, including the selection of lawyers and matters related to Bar Council members.
In the alleged audio, she claimed that pressure should have been exerted by Bar Council members and questioned the process through which some lawyers were brought forward despite, according to her, having no association with the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF).
She also alleged that lawyers fees had been increased and consultancy contracts worth millions of rupees had been recieved, while accusing party figures of misleading others about the matter.
Yousafzai further alleged that a conspiracy had taken place and questioned the whereabouts and position of the Bar Council members concerned.
In another allegation contained in the purported audio, she accused Salman Akram Raja of using PTI founder Imran Khan’s social media account to post tweets for his own benefit.
Yousafzai warned in the alleged conversation that she had remained silent so far, but claimed that if she publicly spoke or posted about the matter, “many people” would be unable to face the resulting questions.
