SUKKUR (Bureau Report): A family from the New Pind Islam Colony area of Sukkur staged a protest outside the Sukkur Press Club, alleging that their 16-year-old daughter, Afroz, had been abducted and forcibly married. The family demanded her immediate recovery and the arrest of those allegedly involved.
The protest was led by Khair Muhammad Korkhani, an elder of the Korkhani community from Perialo. He was accompanied by his wife Rukhsana, brother Ali Muhammad, daughter Jamila and other family members. The protesters were holding copies of the Holy Quran and appealed to the authorities to ensure the safe recovery of the girl.
Speaking to the media, Khair Muhammad Korkhani alleged that Bashir, Rafiq, Mashooq, Didar, Ali Ahmed and several other individuals allegedly attacked their house early in the morning while armed and forcibly took his 16-year-old daughter Afroz away.
He said that although a case had been registered at New Pind Police Station, Sukkur, the police had so far failed to recover the girl or arrest the alleged suspects. He said the family was facing severe distress and mental anguish because of the situation.
Khair Muhammad further alleged that around a year ago, his brother had also been injured in a shooting incident. He said a case had been registered over that incident as well, but alleged that the suspects were still moving freely due to what he described as alleged police patronage.
During the protest, the girl’s sister Jamila alleged that after Afroz was allegedly abducted, she was forcibly married to Rafiq Korkhani. She maintained that Afroz was still a minor and expressed fears that she was being held against her will.
The protesting family demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and called for the immediate arrest of the alleged suspects. They also urged the police to safely recover 16-year-old Afroz and hand her over to her family.
The protesters appealed to senior police officials to take immediate notice of the matter, ensure the protection of the affected family and provide them with justice according to the law.
