KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management to limit captain Babar Azam’s interaction with the English media during the national team’s tour of England.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme Score, Rashid Latif said the PCB should adopt a strategy of keeping Babar Azam away from the English media during the tour.
Rashid Latif, who toured England with Pakistan in 1992, 1996 and 2001, described an England tour as a challenging assignment. He said the English media can sometimes create unnecessary attention around visiting teams and suggested that Babar Azam could face particular scrutiny.
The former wicketkeeper-captain said Babar is an experienced player, but it would be better for the PCB to limit his media appearances and instead send former Test captain Shan Masood to speak to the English media more frequently.
According to Rashid Latif, Shan Masood has played in England and has greater experience dealing with the English media. He added that Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Abbas could also be suitable choices for media duties.
The Pakistan cricket team has arrived in England for a three-Test series. The first Test is scheduled to begin on August 19 at Headingley in Leeds, with Babar Azam leading the national side.
