RIYADH: Yemen has confirmed launching a military operation against the Houthis and their military equipment, describing the action as a response to what it called “treacherous activities” by the group.
According to Yemen’s military, the operation was carried out in Marib in response to attacks by Ansar Allah, the Houthi movement.
The Yemeni Ministry of Defense said its forces targeted Houthi fighters and military equipment. The ministry accused the Houthis of pushing Yemen into regional conflicts in pursuit of external agendas.
In a statement, the ministry further alleged that the Houthis had damaged Yemen’s economy and contributed to sectarian divisions among the population.
A spokesperson for the Yemeni military said the latest military action was conducted in response to what authorities described as hostile and treacherous actions by the Houthis.
The development follows an attack in Yemen’s Marib province on Friday that reportedly killed at least 10 people. According to Yemeni military sources, eight soldiers were killed and 12 others wounded in the attacks.
Ansar Allah said it had targeted a camp belonging to government forces in Marib.
The latest escalation underscores the continuing military and political tensions in Yemen, where fighting between the internationally recognized government and the Houthi movement has remained a major source of instability.
