KARACHI: A bank operations manager has allegedly been found involved in the theft of Rs53.7 million from an ATM of a private bank on Aram Bagh Road, Karachi, during the night of August 7.

According to police, the bank’s operations manager and one of his friends were allegedly involved in the theft. The suspects reportedly opened the ATM lock and stole Rs53.7 million in cash.

CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace Suspects

Police officials said the suspects were identified and arrested with the help of CCTV footage.

According to investigators, the suspects attempted to prevent the ATM’s surveillance system from recording the incident by placing chewing gum over the CCTV camera installed inside the ATM.

Police said the bank operations manager allegedly arranged for the stolen money to be kept with his friend following the theft.

Stolen Cash Recovered

Police officials said Rs29.74 million of the stolen amount has so far been recovered from the suspects.

Investigators are continuing their probe to determine the whereabouts of the remaining amount and establish the complete circumstances surrounding the theft.

The involvement of a bank employee in the incident has raised questions regarding internal security procedures and access controls at the private bank’s ATM facility.
