MUMBAI: A Mumbai Police constable deployed outside the residence of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan died after reportedly suffering a suspected heart attack while on duty.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the constable, identified as Ganesh Raite, was posted outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments as part of the security arrangements around the actor’s residence.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening. At around 6pm, Raite complained to fellow police officers that he was feeling unwell.
He was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors declared him dead after he arrived at the medical facility.
Suspected Cardiac Arrest
Police officials reportedly suspect that Raite suffered a heart attack while performing his duty outside the actor’s residence.
However, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death.
The constable’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the precise cause of death is expected to be established after the medical examination and subsequent report.
The incident occurred amid heightened security arrangements around Salman Khan.
Salman Khan Under Enhanced Security
Salman Khan’s security was upgraded to the Y-plus category following the killing of his close friend and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique in October 2024.
The actor had been receiving repeated threats allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which also claimed responsibility for Siddique’s killing.
Security around Salman Khan had already come under increased scrutiny following an earlier attack on his residence.
In April 2024, two motorcycle-borne individuals allegedly opened several rounds of fire outside Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai.
The incident raised concerns over the safety of the actor and his family and led to further strengthening of security arrangements around his residence.
Investigation Underway
The death of the police constable has occurred while security personnel continue to be deployed around the actor’s home because of the perceived threat to his safety.
Authorities are now awaiting the post-mortem findings to determine whether the constable died specifically from a cardiac event or whether another medical condition contributed to his death.
For now, police officials have described a heart attack as the suspected cause, while the final determination will depend on the medical report.
The incident has also highlighted the demanding conditions faced by police personnel assigned to high-security duties, particularly those deployed for extended periods outside the residences of high-profile individuals.
Further details are expected once the post-mortem examination and official investigation are completed.
