Pakistan has played an important diplomatic role in reducing tensions between the United States and Iran, according to an analysis by South Asian Voices.
The policy platform, which focuses on security, political and economic developments in South Asia, said Pakistan helped establish communication between the United States and Iran at a time when tensions between the two countries had reached a critical level.
According to the analysis, Islamabad successfully helped bring the two sides to the negotiating table and played a significant diplomatic role at a time when direct communication between Washington and Tehran was urgently needed.
The report said Pakistan’s efforts were notable because other major powers, including China, France, Germany, India and the United Kingdom, had also been involved in diplomatic efforts but were unable to achieve a similar breakthrough.
The analysis further stated that talks between American and Iranian representatives in Islamabad continued for more than 20 hours. These negotiations were described as one of the highest-level direct contacts between the United States and Iran since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Although both countries accused each other of violating the ceasefire, neither side completely abandoned the negotiation process. The report therefore argued that it would not be fair to blame the mediator for the difficulties faced during the talks.
Pakistan’s diplomatic involvement is being viewed as an important effort toward maintaining dialogue and reducing tensions between the two countries. The development also highlights Islamabad’s growing role in regional diplomacy and its efforts to support peaceful negotiations rather than further escalation.
