No Leniency for Those Spreading Chaos, Strict Action Will Be Taken: Iran’s Chief Justice

Tehran: Iran’s Chief Justice, Ghulam-Hussain Mohsini, has emphasized that there will be no leniency for individuals or groups attempting to spread unrest and instability in the country. He warned that strict action will be taken against those violating the law.

According to the Iranian news agency Mizan, Chief Justice Mohseni-Eje’i addressed a meeting of the Judicial Council, directing the Attorney General and prosecutors in all provinces to act decisively and in accordance with the law against rioters and their supporters. He instructed authorities to ensure that legal measures are rigorously enforced against those engaging in or encouraging disruptive activities.

Referring to recent events in Iran, the Chief Justice stated that hostile elements are attempting to create disorder within the nation but emphasized that their efforts are failing. He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran distinguishes clearly between lawful protesters and destructive actors.

“Those who endanger public safety and national security will be met with a firm response under the law,” Chief Justice Mohseni-Eje’i said, underlining the judiciary’s commitment to maintaining order and stability.

The remarks come amid nationwide protests that have entered their ninth consecutive day, driven by public outrage over soaring inflation, declining currency value, and worsening economic conditions. Human rights monitoring agency HRANA reported that clashes between demonstrators and security forces have left 19 people dead and more than 50 injured due to firing incidents.

Observers note that the Chief Justice’s statement signals a hardline approach from Iran’s judiciary, focusing on a combination of legal enforcement and targeted action against perceived instigators, while formally recognizing the distinction between peaceful protesters and disruptive elements.

As the protests continue across multiple cities, Iran faces mounting pressure to balance law enforcement with addressing legitimate public grievances, a challenge that authorities and the judiciary appear determined to manage through strict legal measures.
