Two people, including a policeman, sustained minor injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police mobile close to Pir Zakori Bridge on GT Road in Peshawar’s Shawar area on Sunday, according to Rescue 1122 and police officials.
Rescue 1122 said its medical and emergency teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the blast. The injured were provided first aid before being shifted to a nearby hospital by police for further treatment.
Following the explosion, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in nearby localities to trace those responsible for the attack, according to police sources. Authorities are also investigating the nature of the blast.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the explosion and expressed his best wishes for the speedy recovery of the two injured police personnel.
The governor sought an immediate report on the incident from the concerned authorities and said that elements hostile to peace would not succeed in their attempts to destabilise the province.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by the police, law enforcement agencies and security forces in the fight against terrorism, saying the nation would always remember their services.
Governor Kundi also directed the authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured personnel, reaffirming that the government and the entire nation stand firmly with the country’s brave security forces in the ongoing war against terrorism.
