SUKKUR, Aug. 1: Sukkur Electric Power Supply Company (SEPCO) carried out a large-scale operation against electricity theft and outstanding bill defaulters in Sukkur, disconnecting hundreds of illegal power connections and recovering millions of rupees in unpaid dues.
The crackdown was conducted on the special directives of Chief Engineer Ejaz Ahmed Channa, with support from Pakistan Rangers and Sindh Police to ensure the operation was carried out safely and effectively.
The operation was supervised by Assistant Chief (AC) Sukkur Abdul Haq Siyal, XEN Sukkur Khalil Ahmed Chandio, and SDO Bandar Road Sub-Division Khalil-uz-Zaman Domki. Several SEPCO officials and technical staff also participated in the campaign.
According to a SEPCO spokesperson, the operation targeted Wari Tarar, Maldri Road, and surrounding localities, where teams disconnected hundreds of unauthorized electricity connections allegedly involved in power theft.
The spokesperson said penalties were imposed on consumers found allegedly stealing electricity, while the utility also recovered millions of rupees in outstanding electricity bills during the campaign.
SEPCO officials warned defaulting consumers to clear their pending dues immediately, stating that failure to do so could result in stricter legal action, including permanent disconnection of electricity supply and legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
The utility said similar operations would continue without interruption as part of its campaign to curb electricity theft and improve bill recovery.
Officials emphasized that electricity theft causes significant financial losses to the national economy and places additional strain on the power distribution system. They said action would continue against all those found involved in illegal electricity use without discrimination.
SEPCO also appealed to the public to discourage electricity theft, pay electricity bills on time, and report any illegal connections or power theft to the relevant authorities to help ensure a fair and uninterrupted electricity supply.
