Karachi: A high-level meeting focusing on the security of Chinese nationals and foreign consulates was held at the DIG South Office under the chairmanship of DIG South Zone Karachi, Syed Asad Raza. The meeting was convened to review existing security arrangements and to further strengthen measures for the protection of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens, residing and working within the South Zone of Karachi.

Senior police officials participated in the meeting, including the SSP Keamari, SSP South, representatives of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), and other relevant senior officers. The presence of key stakeholders underscored the importance being given to the safety and security of foreign missions and expatriate communities.

During the meeting, DIG South was given a comprehensive briefing on the current security arrangements in place for foreign consulates located in the South Zone, as well as for foreign nationals, with special emphasis on Chinese citizens. The briefing covered deployment patterns, surveillance mechanisms, patrol routines, and coordination among various police units assigned to security duties.

A detailed review of the existing measures adopted for the protection of Chinese nationals was carried out. The meeting assessed the effectiveness of these measures in light of current security requirements and evolving challenges. DIG South emphasized that the security of Chinese nationals is a top priority and a matter of national responsibility, given their significant contribution to development projects and economic activities in Pakistan.

DIG Syed Asad Raza directed concerned officers to conduct a fresh and comprehensive survey of security arrangements at all foreign consulates within the South Zone. He instructed that these arrangements should be further strengthened, made more effective, and rendered fully foolproof to counter any potential threats. He stressed that no lapses or weaknesses would be tolerated in matters relating to the safety of foreign missions and personnel.

It was decided during the meeting that patrolling around foreign consulates and their surrounding areas would be further intensified. Additional mobile and foot patrols will be deployed to enhance visible policing and rapid response capability. Moreover, the number of security pickets (nakas) at sensitive locations will be increased to ensure stricter monitoring and control of movement in high-risk areas.

DIG South also issued clear instructions to all officers to ensure strict and complete implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) devised for the movement, residence, and protection of foreign nationals, especially Chinese citizens. He emphasized that adherence to SOPs is mandatory and that any negligence or deviation would result in disciplinary action.

Addressing the participants, DIG Asad Raza stated that all existing security arrangements related to Chinese nationals must be reviewed immediately. Any shortcomings, gaps, or vulnerabilities identified during this review must be addressed without delay. He reiterated that security measures must be strengthened to such an extent that they remain effective under all circumstances.

He further highlighted the need for enhanced coordination among various police units and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to ensure proactive security management. DIG South stressed that regular monitoring, periodic reviews, and timely updates to security plans are essential to maintaining a robust security environment for foreign nationals.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the South Zone Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all foreign consulates and foreign nationals. DIG South Syed Asad Raza assured that every possible step would be taken to provide a secure and peaceful environment, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its international partners and diplomatic missions.
