GLASGOW: Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the men’s javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games after securing a place among the top performers in the qualification round.
No athlete managed to achieve the automatic qualification standard of 84 metres during the three-attempt qualifying competition. As a result, the top 12 athletes based on their best throws advanced to the final.
Arshad Nadeem booked his place in the final with a best throw of 78.63 metres, finishing seventh overall in the qualification standings.
Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan narrowly missed out on a place in the final. He recorded a best throw of 74.36 metres, which placed him 14th, leaving him outside the top 12 qualifiers.
Among the other athletes advancing to the final were Keshorn of the Bahamas with a throw of 78.60 metres, while India’s Rohit Yadav and Yash Veer Singh qualified with throws of 78.37 metres and 78.36 metres, respectively.
Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago secured a place in the final with a throw of 78.26 metres, while Nigeria’s Nnemdi also advanced after recording 75.27 metres.
The men’s javelin throw final will feature the top 12 qualifiers competing for the Commonwealth Games medals, with Pakistan’s hopes resting on Arshad Nadeem as he aims to add another major international achievement to his career.
