Lahore, Pakistan: The Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt has been removed from his position following the controversial police raid on the residence of Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Awan in Lahore.
According to police officials, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore has appointed two senior officers to conduct an inquiry into the incident. The inquiry officers have already visited the site, inspected the scene, and begun collecting evidence.
Police said the officers will complete their investigation and submit a detailed report to the CCPO, after which further action will be taken based on the findings.
Earlier, a case had been registered against 11 police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO), over the incident in which a police team allegedly arrived at the Attorney General’s residence due to a misunderstanding.
According to Attorney General Mansoor Awan’s driver, Irfan, only domestic staff were present at the house when the police arrived. He alleged that the officers damaged flower pots placed outside the residence during the operation.
The driver further claimed that the police also took away the house’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording system while leaving. He said that after being informed of the incident, Attorney General Mansoor Awan returned home from an official meeting. By that time, the police had allegedly deleted the CCTV footage and returned the Digital Video Recorder (DVR).
The incident has drawn significant attention, prompting senior police authorities to initiate an internal investigation into the conduct of the officers involved. The inquiry aims to determine whether standard operating procedures were violated and to establish responsibility for the alleged misconduct.
The removal of the SP Cantt is being viewed as an initial administrative measure while the investigation remains underway. Authorities have stated that any further disciplinary or legal action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry report.
The case has raised questions about police procedures, accountability, and the circumstances that led to the mistaken raid on the residence of the country’s chief legal officer. Officials have assured that a transparent investigation will be carried out and that those found responsible will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
