The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has removed Imad Shakeel Butt as captain of the national hockey team and appointed Abu Bakr as the new skipper ahead of the Hockey World Cup.
According to the PHF, Abu Bakr will lead Pakistan in upcoming international competitions, beginning with the home series against South Korea on 30 July.
The decision was approved by PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani on the recommendation of the federation’s Professional Development Committee.
Despite losing the captaincy, Imad Shakeel Butt will remain part of the national squad as a senior player.
The PHF expressed confidence that under Abu Bakr’s leadership, supported by the experience of senior players and the talent of younger members, the team will move forward with greater unity and strength.
The Hockey World Cup is scheduled to begin on 15 August, with Pakistan aiming for an improved performance under its new leadership.
