After Pakistan Idol came to a surprise halt earlier this year, singer Zeb Bangash has confirmed the show will be returning soon.
Bangash, who serves as a judge on the show, posted an earlier reel of herself in the makeup room on her Instagram story on Tuesday with a collage of pictures from the programme’s set and a message for fans.
“Our Pakistan Idol bulbuls are back and so are we,” the singer said, adding that the show would be coming to fans soon.
“Thank you all for the love and for missing us so much. We missed you too,” she wrote in her message.
Earlier, Bangash appeared to hint at the show’s return when she responded to a comment on the same reel, which was posted on July 20, asking if the programme was “coming back”. At the time, she just replied with a smiling emoji.
In a twist that felt a bit like a cruel pre-April Fools Day joke, the second season of Pakistan Idol left fans hanging just as they were set to find out which of the young musicians would take home the title. The show abruptly postponed its finale on March 31, citing “regional tensions rising and calls for national austerity”.
The programme was set to return to TV after taking a break for Ramazan, with the final round “just weeks away”, when organisers said it “did not feel right” to continue a national celebration at such scale as violence in the region escalated.
Addressing the show’s contestants, the announcement said their journey on the show was “not over” and their moment to shine was “not lost. It is simply waiting.”
It is not clear when the next episode of Pakistan Idol will air and the producers of the show and other judges haven’t made any public comments on its return.
