Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Iran is already involved in the war against Ukraine through its military support for Russia, warning that Kyiv must remain vigilant against the possibility of new security threats.
Speaking in an interview, Zelensky was asked whether Iran could launch a direct attack on Ukraine following a recent incident involving an aircraft. In response, he stressed the need for continued caution and preparedness.
“We must remain vigilant and do everything possible to ensure that no new front is opened,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelensky added that, in his view, Iran and North Korea have already attacked Ukraine indirectly by providing military assistance to Russia. He expressed hope that neither country would escalate its involvement further but said Ukraine must be prepared for every possible scenario.
“The reality is that Iran and North Korea have already attacked us. We hope they will not expand their attacks, but we must be ready for any situation,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader also reiterated allegations that Iran has supplied Russia with military equipment since the early stages of the conflict. According to Zelensky, Tehran has provided thousands of Shahed drones to Moscow and later granted licences for their production in Russia.
Iran has repeatedly denied supplying weapons for use in the Ukraine conflict, while Russia and Iran have maintained defence cooperation. The issue of alleged Iranian drone deliveries has remained a point of contention between Kyiv, Western governments and Tehran.
Zelensky’s remarks come amid ongoing international concern over external military support for Russia as the war in Ukraine continues, with Kyiv urging its allies to strengthen measures aimed at limiting the flow of weapons and military technology to Moscow.
