Rahim Yar Khan: An 18-year-old mentally disabled girl died after falling into an uncovered manhole in the Aslam Town area of Rahim Yar Khan, authorities and local residents said.

According to reports, the girl accidentally fell into the open manhole and could not be rescued in time. Rescue personnel later recovered her body and handed it over to her family.

Residents of the neighbourhood said they had repeatedly complained to the Municipal Committee administrator about the uncovered manhole over the past four days but claimed that no action had been taken to address the hazard.

Following the incident, Assistant Commissioner Sadiqabad stated that a case had been registered against the sanitation supervisor responsible for the area. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether negligence contributed to the girl’s death.

The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over public safety and the risks posed by uncovered manholes, with local residents calling for stricter maintenance and greater accountability to prevent similar incidents in the future.
