SUKKUR: The Sindh Forest Department, assisted by police, launched a large-scale operation against illegal sawmills in Rohri, Kandhra, and Dara Wahan, sealing more than 11 unlicensed sawmills.
The operation was led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sukkur, Ziyadullah Laghari, in compliance with the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench’s Constitutional Petition No. 1688 of 2021.
The enforcement team included Ali Nawaz Rak, Ahsan Ali Barro, Saeed Ahmed Khoso, and other officials from the Forest Department, who participated in the crackdown.
Speaking to the media, DFO Ziyadullah Laghari said the operation was carried out in accordance with the Sindh High Court’s clear directives, which prohibit the operation of unlicensed and unregistered sawmills. He stated that such activities are a violation of the law and that the department will continue taking action without discrimination.
He further warned that any attempt to reopen the sealed sawmills, operate them illegally, or tamper with official government seals would result in the immediate registration of an FIR under the Forest Act and other applicable laws. He stressed that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the court’s orders.
The Forest Department said the crackdown is part of its ongoing efforts to curb illegal timber processing, protect forest resources, and ensure compliance with environmental and forestry laws across the Sukkur Division.
