MUZAFFARABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during a public rally in Muzaffarabad, saying that those who have failed to develop their own provinces are in no position to promise progress for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Addressing supporters, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said that if her party comes to power in Azad Kashmir, it will undertake an extensive road development program to improve connectivity across the region.
“If the PML-N forms the government, roads will be constructed in every village of Azad Kashmir,” she told the gathering.
Without directly naming the Pakistan Peoples Party, Maryam Nawaz questioned its governance record, saying that those whose own provinces suffer from deteriorating infrastructure could not be expected to improve conditions in Azad Kashmir.
“Those whose own provinces have broken roads cannot build roads in Azad Kashmir,” she said.
She also alleged that public resources in certain provinces are lost to corruption, arguing that such administrations have no credibility when making promises of development elsewhere.
“Those whose provincial resources fall victim to corruption cannot provide resources to Azad Kashmir,” she remarked.
Maryam Nawaz also took aim at PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who has recently addressed political gatherings in Azad Kashmir.
Referring to his speeches, she said that some political leaders had come to the region to deliver speeches, express grievances, and level allegations.
“I respectfully ask: whom are you complaining about? The government here is yours,” she said, suggesting that the PPP should be held accountable for the performance of the administration it supports in the region.
The Punjab chief minister urged voters to support the PML-N, saying the party’s focus would be on development projects, improved infrastructure, and better public services if elected.
Her remarks come amid an intensifying election campaign in Azad Kashmir, where major political parties, including the PML-N and PPP, are seeking public support ahead of the upcoming polls.
The exchange of criticism between the two parties has become a prominent feature of the campaign, with both sides questioning each other’s governance records and development claims.
Maryam Nawaz’s statements reflect the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s political position during the election campaign. The Pakistan Peoples Party has previously defended its governance record and has continued to present its own development agenda to voters in Azad Kashmir.
