KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that the historic Regal Chowk in the city’s Saddar area will be renamed Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (PBUH) Chowk, with plans for its reconstruction and beautification ahead of the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The announcement was made during the mayor’s visit to Regal Chowk, accompanied by the Municipal Commissioner and members of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) City Council.
Speaking on the occasion, Murtaza Wahab said the city administration would undertake special arrangements to mark the arrival of Rabi-ul-Awwal, including decorative lighting and beautification projects across Karachi.
He stated that Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (PBUH) Chowk would undergo comprehensive reconstruction and landscaping to improve its appearance and better reflect its new identity.
“As part of the Rabi-ul-Awwal arrangements, Karachi will be illuminated and decorated, while Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (PBUH) Chowk will be reconstructed and beautified,” the mayor said.
Murtaza Wahab also highlighted the municipal administration’s performance during Muharram-ul-Haram, saying the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation had successfully ensured civic services and coordinated arrangements throughout the religious observances.
He expressed confidence that similar efforts would be made during Rabi-ul-Awwal to facilitate citizens and maintain a peaceful environment.
According to the mayor, all relevant municipal departments will remain on high alert throughout the sacred month to ensure smooth traffic management, sanitation, lighting, and other essential civic services.
He added that the city administration is committed to providing the best possible facilities to residents and visitors participating in religious gatherings and celebrations.
The mayor emphasized that coordinated efforts among municipal authorities and other government departments would help maintain public convenience during the holy month.
The renaming of Regal Chowk and the planned redevelopment project form part of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s broader initiatives to improve public spaces while making special civic arrangements for significant religious occasions.
Further details regarding the implementation timeline for the renaming and reconstruction project are expected to be announced by the municipal authorities in the coming weeks.
