KARACHI: Police have arrested all suspects involved in the kidnapping of a two-year-old boy, Azaan Ali, from Karachi’s Manghopir Road area, with investigators revealing that the alleged mastermind was a close friend of the child’s father.
According to SSP West Tariq Mastoi, the operation resulted in the arrest of the principal suspect along with all other individuals allegedly involved in the crime.
Police said the main suspect, who was known to the victim’s family and maintained a friendship with the child’s father, played a direct role in planning and executing the kidnapping.
Investigators disclosed that after abducting the child, the suspects demanded a ransom of Rs5 million from the family in exchange for the boy’s safe release.
Speaking to the media, SSP Tariq Mastoi said the accused orchestrated the crime out of greed and enlisted the help of his brother-in-law and another associate to carry out the abduction.
“The suspect, motivated by financial gain, planned and executed the kidnapping with the assistance of his brother-in-law and a friend,” the senior police officer said.
Police have not yet released further details regarding the recovery operation or the specific circumstances that led investigators to identify and apprehend the suspects. Authorities, however, confirmed that all individuals believed to be involved in the case are now in custody.
The kidnapping had sparked widespread concern after two-year-old Azaan Ali was abducted on July 18 from a private housing society located on Manghopir Road.
The incident drew significant public attention after CCTV footage of the abduction surfaced on social media and news platforms. The video showed the sequence of events surrounding the child’s disappearance, prompting calls for swift action from law enforcement agencies.
Following the release of the footage, Karachi Police launched an intensive investigation, examining surveillance recordings, collecting forensic evidence, and tracing the movements of the suspects. Investigators also interviewed family members, witnesses, and other individuals connected to the case.
Authorities say the arrests represent a major breakthrough in the investigation and demonstrate the importance of coordinated police efforts in responding to serious crimes involving children.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to kidnapping for ransom and other relevant offenses under Pakistani law. Police said further investigations are underway to determine whether anyone else was involved in facilitating or supporting the crime.
