ZURICH: FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive special championship rings in addition to the traditional World Cup trophy and gold medals, marking a first in the tournament’s history.
According to FIFA, this will be the first time that the champions of a FIFA competition are presented with championship rings, following a tradition commonly associated with major professional sports in the United States.
To commemorate the tournament, FIFA said a total of 2,026 rings will be produced.
Of these, 30 rings will be reserved for the players and officials of the World Cup-winning team, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available for football fans around the world as officially licensed merchandise.
FIFA said each championship ring will feature the FIFA World Cup Trophy on one side, while the other side will display the identity of the winning team. Every ring will also carry a unique serial number, be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and be custom-sized for the individual recipient.
According to the governing body, immediately after the World Cup final, the captain and head coach of the winning team will receive commemorative temporary rings. The permanent set of 30 championship rings will later be presented during a special ceremony after all customization and production processes have been completed.
FIFA said the initiative is intended to create a lasting symbol of the players’ achievement and further celebrate the historic significance of winning football’s biggest tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled to be played on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium, with Spain and Argentina set to compete for the title.
