PATNA: Police in the Indian state of Bihar have arrested a woman and her alleged boyfriend for allegedly conspiring to murder her husband, who was shot dead while traveling by train.

According to Indian media reports, the victim, Dev Kumar Ganjan, worked as a technician in the electricity department in Bihar. He was reportedly traveling by train to meet his wife, Smita Kumari, when he was attacked.

Authorities said the shooting occurred near Badla Ghat in Khagaria district, where the victim was fatally shot during the journey.

Police Investigation

According to police, the investigation revealed that Smita Kumari was employed as a Motor Vehicle Inspector in Supaul district and was allegedly involved in a relationship with a man identified as Ajit Kumar.

Investigators allege that the two considered Dev Kumar Ganjan an obstacle to their relationship and conspired to have him killed.

Police claim that Smita Kumari and Ajit Kumar allegedly hired a contract killer identified as Raju Kumar, who is accused of carrying out the shooting aboard the train.

Authorities allege that the suspect shot the victim during the journey before fleeing the scene.

Arrests Made

Police said they have arrested Smita Kumari and Ajit Kumar in connection with the case and have initiated further legal proceedings against them.

Investigators also stated that efforts are continuing in relation to the alleged contract killer and other aspects of the case.

According to police, Raju Kumar has a prior criminal record and had previously served time in jail in another case before obtaining bail.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Police officials said the investigation is continuing to gather additional evidence and determine the full sequence of events leading to the killing.

The allegations against the accused have been made by the police, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The case has drawn significant public attention in India because of the alleged involvement of close family members and the claim that the murder was carried out by a hired gunman on a moving train. Authorities say further details will emerge as the investigation and court proceedings continue.
