TANK: Two police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were killed and two others injured after an explosion targeted an armoured police vehicle during a routine patrol in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police officials said.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Samad Khan, the incident occurred on the South Waziristan Road near the Warana area, where an armoured police vehicle was conducting routine patrolling duties when it was struck by a blast.
The explosion claimed the lives of ASI Faridullah and Constable Akhtar Zaman, who died at the scene.
Two other policemen, Constable Abdul Malik and Constable Qudratullah, sustained injuries in the attack.
Police officials said the bodies of the martyred personnel and the injured officers were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tank, where the wounded are receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to secure the site and gather evidence.
The DPO said an investigation into the explosion is underway to determine the nature of the attack and identify those responsible.
Security forces and police have increased vigilance in the area as the search operation continues. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the blast.
The attack highlights the continuing security challenges faced by law enforcement personnel operating in the region, where police and security forces regularly conduct patrols and counterterrorism operations to maintain law and order.
Authorities said further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
