Top Pakistani civil and military leaders reach Tehran to attend Khamenei’s funeral

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei.

The prime minister is accompanied by a senior delegation comprising Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the funeral proceedings in Tehran and convey heartfelt condolences to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved family on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.

In separate visits, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also reached Tehran to attend the funeral and burial ceremonies of the late Iranian leader.

Field Marshal Asim Munir was received at Tehran Airport by senior Iranian officials, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and senior Iranian military officials.

Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran from Saudi Arabia, where he was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni. The two leaders also held an important meeting on matters of mutual interest.

According to Iranian media reports, Senator Mohsin Naqvi will participate in the historic farewell and burial ceremonies of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Pakistan’s representatives will also express condolences and reaffirm solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people during the visit.
