Pakistan Railways has approved the distribution of cash awards worth Rs365.15 million to its 420 officers and employees in recognition of what has been described as their ‘annual performance’. 

According to available information, the cash awards were approved by the Ministry of Railways which will be distributed among officials ranging from Grade 22 to Grade 11. 

According to the list of beneficiaries, the recently appointed CEO of the Railways will be given a cash award of Rs 218,000. 

According to Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) report Pakistan Railways incurred a net loss of over Rs. 61 billion during the 2024-25 fiscal year, driven by operating expenses of Rs. 153 billion outpacing total earnings of Rs. 92 billion Railways losses surge 19pc to Rs61bn. 

Moreover, Pakistan railways was facing significant operational challenges especially frequent delay in trains, increase in accidents due to poor infrastructure. In the summer, there is an increase in operational problems including ACs and engine failures during travel. 

The passengers said that the approval of millions of rupees cash awards for the officers and staff of ailing railways need reality check and PR should first of focus its attention on passengers service so that the losses of railways can be curtailed.
