Sukkur: Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi has directed utility service providers to ensure uninterrupted electricity and gas supply during Muharram-ul-Haram, particularly on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, to facilitate mourners and maintain smooth conduct of religious gatherings and processions.

The directive was issued during an important meeting held at the Commissioner House Camp Office to review arrangements for the provision of essential services during Muharram. The meeting was attended by SEPCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Ejaz Ahmed Channa, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Zonal Manager Mushtaq Hussain Channa, SE Rohri Division SEPCO Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, SE Sukkur City SEPCO Abdul Haq Siyal, and other relevant officials.

Addressing the participants, Commissioner Abid Saleem Qureshi emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted utility services during the sacred days of Muharram. He instructed electricity and gas authorities to make all necessary arrangements well in advance to prevent disruptions and provide maximum convenience to mourners participating in religious activities.

The commissioner specifically directed SEPCO officials to avoid load shedding during Ashura and other significant Muharram events. He said uninterrupted electricity supply is essential to ensure that mourners and organizers of religious gatherings do not face unnecessary difficulties.

“Particular attention should be given to the 9th and 10th of Muharram. Every effort must be made to ensure uninterrupted electricity and gas supply during these days so that religious observances can take place smoothly,” he stated.

Commissioner Qureshi also instructed SEPCO authorities to complete a comprehensive inspection of power distribution systems along procession routes and at venues where religious gatherings and mourning assemblies will be held. He stressed the need for preventive measures to identify and rectify potential faults before they develop into larger issues.

He further directed that emergency response teams, technical staff, and necessary equipment should remain available around the clock to address any unforeseen power-related problems immediately.

The commissioner also issued instructions to officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company, directing them to maintain a consistent supply of natural gas throughout Muharram. He emphasized that any technical fault or service interruption should be resolved without delay to avoid inconvenience to residents and participants in religious events.

During the meeting, representatives of both SEPCO and SSGC briefed the commissioner on the preparations made for Muharram. Officials outlined contingency plans, emergency response mechanisms, and technical arrangements designed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the observance of Ashura.

The utility companies assured the commissioner that all necessary steps had been taken to maintain stable electricity and gas supplies and to respond swiftly to any emergency situation that may arise.

According to the briefing, monitoring teams will remain active during Muharram, while field staff will be deployed in sensitive areas to ensure prompt handling of technical issues. Authorities also discussed coordination mechanisms between utility providers and local administration to improve response times in case of emergencies.

Commissioner Qureshi stressed the importance of close cooperation among all concerned departments, noting that effective coordination is essential for ensuring public convenience and maintaining a peaceful environment during Muharram.

He stated that all relevant institutions must perform their responsibilities in a coordinated manner so that mourners attending processions and religious gatherings receive the best possible facilities and services.

The meeting also reviewed preparedness measures related to emergency communication, field operations, and rapid response systems to ensure that any disruptions can be addressed efficiently.

Muharram is observed with deep religious significance across Pakistan, and authorities traditionally implement special arrangements to facilitate mourners and ensure public safety. Reliable electricity and gas services are considered critical components of these arrangements, particularly during large gatherings and processions.

Concluding the meeting, the commissioner reiterated that public convenience and uninterrupted service delivery remain top priorities. He expressed confidence that with proper planning, coordination, and vigilance, all institutions would successfully fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram throughout the Sukkur Division.
